Influenced by his time working as a sales representative for the Fuller Brush Company while living in the United States, British-born emigrant Harry Crook later moved back to England to establish his own business based off of what he learned with Fuller. Thus, in 1923 while living in Bristol, England, Kleeneze Homecare was born. Like Fuller, Kleeneze was brush manufacturer that also sold their products door to door. For nearly sixty years, this remained Kleeneze’s standard practice.
But, in the 1980’s, the company began to change its long-held approach to the business. From that point on, a series of catalogs was used to sell a range of over 2,500 different products, ranging from health and beauty aids to cookware and cleaning products. Kleeneze’s independent distributor—for the business had long established itself as a network or MLM organization—only needed to deliver these catalogs to interested residents in the area where they live. Any ordered made are shipped to the distributor who then delivers the products to the customer.
Kleeneze has the distinction of being the oldest multi-level marketing company in Europe with over thirty years of operation in this capacity. The company remained at its original site for almost eighty years. Yet, due to Kleeneze’s continual growth and expansion the business was finally moved to a new location in Warmley, Bristol in May 2004, where new office space and a distribution center were in place.
For most of its history, Kleeneze worked with in the United Kingdom but the business had grown to a point where outside markets began to be necessary. So the company exported its network marketing program to Ireland and then to the Netherlands and Germany.
Despites issues with the effectiveness of the company’s distributor support network, Kleeneze Homecare still has a lot of potential for those interested to make a decent income.
