Pharmanex began as an idea. This idea, birthed in the mind of one of the nation’s leading pharmaceutical scientists, Dr. Michael Chang was initially conceived in 1994. Chang’s idea was clear yet profound. He desired to design both safe and efficient dietary supplements though the application of different branches of Western science to wholly-natural materials.

Over the course of his fifteen years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry, Chang diligently searched for the means to provide protection and preservation of a person’s health. Most of this researched involved the examination of around 50,000 different natural extracts. While working as Deputy Director of Medicinal Chemistry at the monster pharmaceutical company Merck, Sharp and Dohme, Chang spent a great deal of time traveling the globe, continuing his search for the right chemical compound that could be harvested and synthesized into drugs.

Yet, Chang’s efforts were often hindered or the results less than satisfactory while working with established drug companies. Most of time, the cost effectiveness of pursuing the lines of research that Chang was interested in were frowned up and whatever results he did achieve were not enough to convince the companies to continue spending time and money on. But, Dr. Chang was undaunted in his efforts. His vision was clear. He continued to work on his dream of providing what he called all-natural nutraceutical products that could be scientifically proven to change people’s lives. Chang’s enthusiasm and determination eventually drew the attention of a leading direct sales company called Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. Four years after Chang initially conceptualized Pharmanex, his business was acquired. The result was that Pharmanex now had access to global markets for nutritional and health care products. So now Dr. Chang’s vision has become an expanding global business that shows no signs of slowing down.
