Anne Holland is a self-proclaimed geek,
science fiction aficionado, and book lover. She went into
the publishing and marketing of trade publications and, in
1994, she masterminded Interactive PR & Marketing News,
ISP Business News, and New Media Report.
Then, she began her company, MarketingSherpa.com. for online news services and
trade publishing. It’s for internet marketers and
advertisers. Anne Holland has a good sense of humor. When
asked what her motto is, she declared, “Black is
slimming.” She says when she gets tired of being the only
female CEO at a conference, she’ll read books that describe
other girl geeks through the ages. She has a strong
religious faith that has supported her in difficult times.
Anne Holland was born in Canada into a
poor, immigrant family. Her father abandoned her mother and
the four children early on. At age 12, Anne went to work to
help her mother. As an adult, she married, divorced, and
worked as a secretary to support her children. A few years
later, Anne took a job marketing corporate travel. Then,
she was hired by Jim Hogue, president of a crude oil
company. She learned all about the oil business and soon
began her own business, trading and marketing crude oil.
Anne Holland, President and CEO of Mayco Oil, has made a
profit every year since.
As Anne Holland has become more and more successful, she has
given her time and money to many worthy causes including:
World Vision, Campus Crusade for Christ, International
Christian Children’s Homes, and others. She has helped to
build orphanages, schools, and medical facilities all over
the world. Anne says, “A business principle God has taught
me is if you ask Him to lead you in serving Him with your
business, job or career, you'll be successful beyond your
wildest dreams. But to do this, you must devote your
capital, your profits, your resources, and your time to a
cause that has been given to you by God. Then look out,
because God will help you so you can devote even more of
your capital, profit, and time to His purposes.
